Nick Konidaris

President and Chief Executive Officer

Nick Konidaris has served as president and chief executive officer of Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESIO), a leading provider of world class photonic and laser based systems for micro-engineering applications, since January of 2004.  Prior to ESI he was president and chief executive officer of Advantest America, Inc.  During his tenure, he established Advantest America, Inc. as the dominant supplier to the U.S. automatic test equipment market.  Prior to Advantest America, Inc. he held senior marketing management positions at Teradyne. Currently, Mr. Konidaris serves on the board of directors for Ultratech, Inc., (Nasdaq: UTEK), a semiconductor capital equipment company.  He served as chair of the Engineering Technology Industry Council (ETIC), a partnership between Oregon’s public universities and high-tech industry to create world-class engineering and computer science programs in the state, from fall 2005 to summer 2007. Mr. Konidaris attended the National Technical University of Athens in Athens, Greece, where he earned a Diploma degree in electrical and mechanical engineering. In addition, he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he obtained his master of science in Management.

Paul Oldham

Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of Administration, Corporate Secretary

Mr. Oldham joined ESI in January of 2008, bringing nearly twenty years of financial management experience from Tektronix Inc.—recently acquired by Danaher Corporation—where he held several senior leadership positions including vice president finance and corporate controller, European operations controller, and most recently vice president treasurer and investor relations. Mr. Oldham earned his Bachelor of Science in accounting and Masters of Business Administration from Brigham Young University in Utah.

Robert M. DeBakker

Vice President, Operations

In September 2004, Mr. DeBakker was named Vice President of Operations at ESI. He is a 25-year veteran of the high-technology industry. His experience ranges from early growth start-ups to large, multi-national organizations where he has been at the forefront of many of the industry's most significant technology innovations and transitions. Prior to joining ESI, Mr. DeBakker was an executive at IBM Corporation for six years. While there, he was Vice President of WW xSeries Supply Chain Operations and managed an end-to-end global supply chain in five countries. Prior positions within IBM included Vice President of i/p series and Vice President of Integrated Supply Chain Strategy. From 1988 to 1999, Mr. DeBakker worked for Sequent Computer Systems where he spearheaded the growth of the company from a small niche player to a global $1B company, with a focus on the deployment of world-class supply chain processes. His earlier experience includes Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain positions with Intel Corporation, Mentor Graphics Corporation, and NASA. Mr. DeBakker earned his bachelor’s degree (with honors) in Supply Chain/Logistics from the University of Tennessee.

Kerry Mustoe

Vice President, Corporate Controller, & Chief Accounting Officer

Ms. Mustoe joined ESI in September of 2003 as Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer and was later named Vice President, Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer in January of 2007. Her seventeen years of industry experience have been concentrated in the high-technology arena working for companies that included Sequent Computer Systems, RadiSys, and FEI, where she was Director of Finance and Treasury. Prior to her career in high-technology, Ms. Mustoe was an Audit Manager and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Portland, Oregon.

Sidney Wong

Vice President, Customer Operations

Mr. Wong was promoted to the position of Vice President of Customer Operations at ESI in May 2009, after having served as Senior Director of Sales for over a year. He joined the company in May 1998 from Giga-tronics. During his tenure at ESI, Mr. Wong has held a variety of positions including director of sales and service and, most recently, senior director of marketing. He has propelled ESI to achieve record revenues, all the while traveling extensively in order to maintain ESI’s high standard of customer relations. Mr. Wong previously worked for Hewlett-Packard, and began his career at Philips HK Ltd. Mr. Wong holds a bachelor’s of science degree in Communication Engineering from the University of Kent in England.

Michael Darwin

Vice President & General Manager, Interconnect and Micromachining Division

Dr. Michael Darwin joined ESI as Vice President and General Manager, Interconnect and Micromachining Division (IMD) in August, 2011.  He brings to ESI more than 16 years experience in the semiconductor and capital equipment business, and more than 20 years experience leading/managing technical teams.  Just prior to joining ESI, Dr. Darwin was Vice President of Nanometrics’ UniFire (formerly part of Zygo Corporation) and Materials Characterization Business Units, where he was responsible for growing business in wafer level chip scale packaging and high brightness LED markets respectively.  While at Zygo, he was responsible for growing its strategic investment in semiconductor metrology and inspection equipment as Vice President, Semiconductor Solutions; he has also held senior management positions at Rudolph Technologies and Intel Corporation.  Dr. Darwin earned his BS, MS, and Ph.D. in Physics from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. 

Sean Phillips

General Manager, Component, Test & Inspection Division

Mr. Phillips was appointed General Manager of the Component Test and Inspection Division in January 2009. He joined the company in January 2001, and has held leadership positions including Director of the Electronic Component Solutions Group, Director of Strategic Sales, and Strategic Sales Manager for the Semiconductor Products Group. Mr. Phillips has held product group and sales leadership positions throughout his 20-year career in the high-technology industry. He previously worked at Microscan Systems Incorporated as the Vice President of Marketing as well as at Spectra Physics, where he pioneered the adoption of laser scanning technology in the Asia Pacific Region. Mr. Phillips earned his bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at Indiana University and his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Oregon.

Jon Sabol

Vice President & General Manager, Semiconductor and Laser Division

Mr. Sabol was named Vice President of Semiconductor and Laser Division in June 2010. Jon has more than 20 years experience in the semiconductor capital equipment sector and has held executive-level positions with Applied Materials, Asyst Technologies, Oraxion Diagnostics, Nanoconduction and most recently founded two start ups. Jon earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University.

Stefano Concina

Vice President, Business Development

Stefano Concina brings to ESI more than 27 years in business development, investment and general management experience. He joins ESI after spending more than 15 years at KLA-Tencor in senior management positions, most recently as the managing director of the KT Venture Group. Mr. Concina is responsible for facilitating and assisting in the development of ESI’s corporate growth strategy, building strategic partner relationships, and managing merger and acquisition activity. He holds a degree of Ingénieur from ESIEE (France), an MSEE from Caltech and completed all coursework for his Ph.D. at Stanford.

Bob Hainsey

Sr. Director, Research & Development

Dr. Hainsey was appointed Director of Research and Development at ESI in February 2009. He joined the company in January 1998 from Intel Corporation where he held technology leadership positions in such areas as phase shift mask development and transistor patterning. At ESI, he has held a number of technical and managerial positions researching new application spaces and developing new laser technologies. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Tracey Jerijervi

Sr. Director, Human Resources

Ms. Jerijervi joined ESI in April of 2007 as Director of Human Resources. With over 20 years of industry experience, she has held a number of senior human resource leadership positions within high tech companies such as RadiSys and Tektronix. Currently, Ms. Jerijervi serves on the board of directors of Junior Achievement, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing youth to succeed in the global economy. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor's of science degree.

Matthew Min

Director, Customer Support

Mr. Min joined ESI as a Financial Analyst & Division Controller in 2007. Prior to joining ESI, he worked 5 years for Pepsico as Financial Analyst and Operations Manager, helping the company to better execute both manufacturing and sales strategies. Mr. Min started his career as a a Submarine Officer and as a Nuclear Engineer in the U.S. Naval Nuclear Power Program overseeing the operation, maintenance, and overhaul of variety of engineering systems. He has a BSc Engineering Physics & Applied Mathematics from Colorado School of Mines, and an MBA with focuses in Operations and Finance from University of Washington.
